Continuing Dr John Kennedy of Dingwall's critique of the Declaratory Statement. The first declaration of the Statement, regarding the nature of God's love and grace as universal, was exposed as a serious departure from the biblical and confessional faith of our Reformed fathers. Kennedy's parting comment was: “A Church going down the decline from the Calvinistic position, has her back turned to the truth, and who can tell how far her departure from “the good way” may be extended.” In this next instalment we have Kennedy's decisive assesment of the second paragraph of the Declaratory Statement, which attempts to qualify the Confession's teaching concerning the decrees of God.
